I wanna be you

Something that has been on my mind a lot lately is how jealous and insecure we allow ourselves to get. How many times have we heard about something good happening to someone, then find ourselves either asking God why he does not do that for us, or maybe even passing judgment on them for the thing God gave them. How many women have said I wanna be Beth Moore or have what Beth Moore has.
Or I wish I had a house like Jeanne, or a husband like Aaron, a voice like Jill, talent like Jenny, a job like Deborah…
I know we have all done it, I will admit I have.
The problem is, we are only wishing we had their results, ya know. We want their victories, we don’t want to ever have to go through what Beth Moore had to go through to get to where she is. So you want to be someone else, are you equipped to face what they have faced? God has called you to be you, if you are saying “ya know God if only I could sing like Jennifer, I could do great things for you” It’s the same as telling God you didn’t get it right, The I you created can not do it. Let God use your story and what ever it is YOU have been through, let God take that and do great works. You are good enough just as you are, You can not be better as someone else. I just want to be happy for what God gives my friends, and what God does through great leaders like Beth, I don’t want to live there story, I want my own.

I read somewhere that everybody wants to be a "man after God's own heart" like David, but not many are prepared to go through the repentance with him. David was a great sinner, as his story reveals, but in light of God's covenant with him, he was brought to repentance - and that was what made him who he was!

This is a great reminder. I certainly have accused God of skipping over me when I see Him use others' gifts.

Oh my goodness girl but you nailed my hide to the wall today! I can not believe how right on target you are! Last week as I was reading posts from blogger friends who had attended the "She Speaks" conference in NC I was feeling a little bit....a pretty good big bit...jealous that I didn't have the opportunity to do something like that. I mean, I had been praying for God to meet with these women and do special things for them....and then when He did...I get jealous! Go figure! ha And just last night on the way home from church my hubby turned on the radio and Sandy Patti and Larnell Harris were singing one of my favorite songs..."He's More Wonderful"....and I made the comment that I so wished that I had been born with a beautiful singing voice. I guess we are just so hardheaded and can't see that we are where God wants us and, if we so choose, doing what He wants us to be doing, with the abilities He specially designed us to have. How cool is that?
Again....thank you for exercising the gift God has given you for just cutting to the meat of the matter! I love coming to your blog!

God bless you!

Amen girl.
I just found your blog at the Siesta Fiesta website, and I have to say this really spoke to me.
I just got back from the Deeper Still event and I have to admit, I have felt a little envious of all the fruit that Beth Moore has, but you are right....God has a plan for Gayle, and it's perfect.
So thanks.
And hi, Stace. ;) If she only knew, right?

so the rainbow shines, and it could not without the rain...so are we, shining not without the rain. I love your beautiful perspective on it. Yep, everyone has their story, hope mine is a triology at least. Thanks.

Oh girlfriend! AMEN and AMEN! I LOVE this:

"The problem is, we are only wishing we had their results, ya know. We want their victories...So you want to be someone else, are you equipped to face what they have faced?"

So, so true...if we would all just lay claim to our own stories, our own skin, our own talents, our own mistakes and then walk in our OWN VICTORIES!

Excellent post.

Joyfully,
Melinda

I know exactly what you mean, Lori. Your words perfectly explained how it must make God feel as well. By the way, your "strength" is just as attractive as all those other things you wrote about......you are a strong woman in the Lord....I love ya....
